Achieving deep industrial decarbonization cannot be done by any single company, technology, or policy. It requires coordinated efforts across entire value chains – from technology providers and manufacturers to brands, investors, and policymakers.

As industries face growing pressure to cut emissions, secure future-proof business models, and respond to new regulations and customer expectations, it becomes increasingly important for stakeholders to align across entire value chains. High-temperature heat pumps (HTHPs), electrification, and energy efficiency are central to credible industrial decarbonization pathways.

Sector collaboration turns fragmented initiatives into systemic change by:

  • Aligning demand and expectations across the value chain
  • Sharing risks and accelerating deployment of clean technologies
  • Building joint positions on policy and finance
  • Exchanging knowledge to avoid duplication and scale best practices

Through a series of sector-specific workshops, we bring key stakeholders together to identify barriers, share solutions, and shape a common roadmap for large-scale implementation. You can join the sector collaboration workshops on the second day of the symposium, where they will run in parallel in the afternoon. Choose the workshop which best matches your interests and professional background:

  • Textile: Decarbonizing the global textile value chain with a focus on electrification, energy efficiency, and high-temperature heat pumps.
  • Pulp & Paper: Moving from first demonstration projects to large-scale low-carbon implementation in an energy-intensive industry.
  • Chemicals: Exploring how high-temperature heat pumps and electrification can decarbonize core thermal processes in the basic chemicals sector.

By convening these three sector-specific workshops, the initiative aims to:

Workshop 1: Decarbonizing the Textile Sector

Chaired by: Sanduni Pathiraja, Danish Technological Institute

This workshop brings together brands, manufacturers, technology providers, and campaigners from across the textile value chain to explore how electrification and energy efficiency can cut emissions in textile production.

Join Workshop 1 and dive into a focused, practical session where you will:

  • Gain an overview of the global textile sector, key supply-chain stages, and major emissions hotspots
  • Learn how brands and suppliers can collaborate to align climate targets and procurement demands
  • Explore practical concepts for integrating high-temperature heat pumps in textile processes
  • Identify technical, economic, and policy barriers – and discuss how to overcome them jointly

Objective:

To equip stakeholders across the textile value chain with a clear understanding of decarbonization opportunities, challenges, and actionable pathways - with a focus on electrification, energy efficiency, and HTHPs - while fostering collaboration to accelerate low-carbon transformation in the global textile industry.

Workshop 2: Decarbonizing the Pulp & Paper Sector

Chaired by: Prof. Dr. Panagiotis Stathopoulos, DLR

The pulp and paper industry is energy-intensive, with significant potential for electrification and process optimization. This workshop convenes industrial players, researchers, and policymakers to move beyond first demonstration projects towards wide-scale deployment.

Join Workshop 2 and take part in an interactive, solution‑oriented session where you will:

  • Review the current status of energy use and decarbonization efforts in pulp and paper
  • Discuss real-world technical and financial challenges in adopting new technologies
  • Map key technical and economic enablers for sector-wide transformation
  • Prioritize the most important barriers and enablers and formulate sector commitments for broad and deep electrification

Objective:

To discuss the current status of decarbonization in the pulp and paper industry, explore practical pathways beyond first-generation demonstration projects, and define the next steps required for large-scale implementation.

Workshop 3: Decarbonizing the Chemical Sector

Chaired by: Fabian Ahrendts, Fraunhofer

Basic chemicals are at the heart of many value chains and rely heavily on energy-intensive thermal processes. This workshop focuses on how high-temperature heat pumps and electrification can be integrated into core chemical operations.

Join Workshop 3 and be part of an inspiring, solution‑driven session where you will: 

  • Receive a high-level overview of the basic chemicals sector, key product groups, and main thermal processes
  • Understand how producers currently approach process integration, energy efficiency, and heat recovery
  • Explore HTHP integration concepts for operations such as distillation, evaporation, and drying
  • Identify technical, operational, and economic barriers, and discuss decision criteria for scalable implementation

Objective:

To give stakeholders in the basic chemicals industry a clear understanding of how high-temperature heat pumps and electrification can decarbonize energy-intensive thermal processes, and to evaluate integration potential, constraints, and practical implementation pathways.
